Default HBO Real Sports

Anyone see HBO Real Sports tonight?..A horrifying story on horse slaughter...Interviewed a few people at Mountaineer Park including Becky Care (?) . ..They followed No Day Off from track to slaughterhouse..Some terrible, very graphic video from the slaughterhouses...

Who was the trainer of No Day Off? They interviewed him but I did not hear a name.

Eventually security kicked Bernie and the HBO crew out of the track.

At the end of the show Gumbel took a shot at Dutrow, stating he has had a positive each year since 2000.

I didnt catch the special... but No Day Off was a MDN @ MNR... I believe it was trained by Ricardo Hernandez... the best part, I think it was bred by him as well... dont know anything about him... I can imagine what the video looked like, watch a special on cow slaughtering a few weeks ago, as if death wasnt enough, the way they treat them leading up is insane... dont see why you'd ever slaughter a 4 yo filly... Theres lots of guys that try and buy horses super cheap at tracks... they always say they are looking to "resell" race horses that cant make it at the track... resell for dog food maybe... Some trainers know where the horse they sold will end up, others dont have a clue... I imagine MNR was the place to go... rumor has it lots of Dales horses ended up at slaughter houses... they say thats the real reason hes not in the hall of fame... or I mean... hall of fabulous...

MNRs seems to be a decent target... real sports w/ the Birzer lawsuit a few years ago... if real sports is talking about horse racing... 50% chance MNR will be brought up... I dont think thats a good thing...

Are you serious? I've never even really heard of this show, I wish we had HBO in Canada. I love Gumbel. Loved it when he took a shot at Gene Upshaw.

I will look for it,
thx for the heads up.

what is supposed to happen to all the horses if they are not slaughtered?

Slaughterhouses are nasty ass places, no such thing as a nice slaughterhouse,
like Ralph I have seen the whole process with cattle and chickens,

I just don't get what is supposed to happen here?

What do they want? They want them to be humanely euthanized and then slaughtered?
The difference is ludicrous.

I dont understand what they want the thoroughbred industry to do with all these horses... legit/most horsemen try and breed the fillies and mares, and try and sell the good sound and manageable horses to people who will ride them and give them a second career... but Frankly, theres some horses that in no way shape or form can have a second life outside the track, because of their high strung attitudes, they would kill someone, and it has nothing to do with being mistreated at the track, some horses are just born miserable... The only thing I ask for is for someone to beat the crap out of the workers who work in slaughter houses, no reason to treat them that way... and that would be in all slaughter houses, shouldnt just be a thoroughbred thing...
