Woodlands to shut down

The Woodlands in Kansas City, Kan., is closing its doors, Howard Grace, the track’s president, announced through a press release that was issued late Tuesday. The last day of greyhound racing at the track will be Aug. 24. The Woodlands will not host this year's 32-date Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse meet that was scheduled to open Sept. 20 and run through Nov. 2.

The release stated that the Woodlands has been operating at a financial loss for quite some time. However, it expressed hope that the track would reopen with “new gaming revenue” in the future. The Woodlands won a referendum last June allowing for a slots casino at its facility. It was expected to boost purses to a projected $80,000 to $100,000 a day, versus the $41,000 a program that purses averaged in 2007.

Jayme LaRocca, the general manager of the Woodlands, was in meetings Tuesday and not immediately available for comment. The Woodlands held its first horseracing meet in May 1990.

There about 500 places on the net that book horse races, get a race replay account. This is not ideal, but the best you can get now. As an added bonus, none of those ******* owners or trainers get a dime of your money.
