Saratoga Allowance Turf Finale. The 10 horse busts through the gate, runs 100+ yards before Gomez gets full hold, and is reloaded without even a glance over.
From his perch, Tom Durkin is congratulating Gomez for taking hold in such a "timely manner", when if the horse had run any further he would have been on the freeway. Like most announcers do when this happens, Durkin was covering the track's ass with a vocal sugar coating to all the ontrack hoopleheads, saying, "hhhhey, breaking through the gate and exerting energy before the race is OK; pretend this horse is Secretariat and it won't matter! Good?" If I was an announcer, and had an accent the track is scared of firing like Peter Berry (because the state of West Virginia thinks he might be related to Jason Statham), I would just cough "BULL SH#T!" repeatedly as they are loading the horse back. And might take jabs throughout the race, like, "Oh will you look at that, the 10 is fading, what a fukking surprise!" I tossed the Saratoga horse before he broke through. Was better off they let him go. I just feel something should be said on behalf of everyone who might not have seen what happened there.

I saw a horse at OP dump his jock before loading ( Mile Race) run clockwise to about the 5f pole. They brought him back, loaded him , and he ran dead last by many lengths.
Should have been scratched before they caught up to him. Stewards should have made that call, no brainer.

hilarious material.
I got up and gave Gomez a big round of applause at Durkin's urging!

ive always thought it would be way funner to hear an announcers inner monologue than what he's actually saying.
how many times during a race are you calling it, yet all your thinking is what a horrible ride someone is giving. i can't tell you how many times a horse is being sent on the lead or rushed up after breaking bad and i really just want to say "if you bet this horse your a moron and you can tear up your ticket" ![]() |

i wanna hear sound bytes after they cross the wire.
"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue." "Name's Barf. I'm a Mog, half man half dog. I'm my own best friend" Deb: What are you drawing? Napoleon Dynamite: A liger. Deb: What's a liger? Napoleon Dynamite: It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic. |

Pretty good idea, Pete. Random movie sound bytes. Like the hockey play-by-play who gives some pop culture reference after a goal. If the announcer is going to happily scream at 100 decibels when the 3/5 passes my 14/1 in deep stretch, the least I can get is a Big Lebowski quote or something.
Hollywood Park Friday Night would be a good test run.

not much speed in race at about mile and there are 9 horses 2nd favorite is the only speed comes out of 8 pp i tried desperately to say is this jock an idiot and will he tried to rate horse not likely-or as likely as the earth colliding with the moon tonight-i play 93 exacta box the first q goes 24.97/2nd goes 49.60 and this moron is 4 wide rating the horse then a little later the 10 bursts from the gate and they just stuff him back i have the 6 but am amazed animal is not scratched....i look up at the board and say my animal has a cold jock-lezcano and this sport is a circus....too late theyre off |

the thing is
i have always known that this sport is a circus i dont know why horse players are so shocked at the everyday absurdities(including myself) did anybody really think for 1 second when they started betting the sport or any other sport for that matter that fd up stuff isnt going to happen expecting any of this stuff to stop happening is the act of insanity that is why i have always laughed at HANA and their goals |

I was also startled to see Longboarder loaded back into the gate without a vet inspection. Bettors with money on him didn't have an opportunity to cancel their wagers. Besides, they probably figured, as did Rudolph, that the horse should be/would be scratched. (Imho, folks should get off KR's back on this one--he called what rightfully should have happened and was surprised when Schrupp said that the horse would likely still run _after_ a vet looked over the horse.)
That horse ran a fair distance, fighting Gomez every step of the way. Btw... kudos to Gomez for not only staying aboard but for preventing Longboarder from running even further away from the gate. It took awhile for the pony rider to get in a position where he could help Gomez, even though the pony rider was on a pretty athletic horse. Longboarder was in full run mode and did not want to respond to pressure saying "stop and turn around." Is it safe to say that standard pre-race protocol was not followed in this instance? We're surprised, the TVG announcers were surprised, I would assume that trackgoers were surprised... not at all what I expect from racing at Saratoga. I would be interested to hear what the horse's connections think about the incident. If I were fortunate enough to own/train a racehorse, I would want my horse scratched in such a situation. That much energy expended before a race pretty much ensures an off-the-board performance. Every now and then we see an exception--I'm thinking of Cesario before the American Oaks and California Flag before the BC Turf Sprint--but those are really special horses, and even with special horses, such exceptions can probably be counted on the fingers of one hand.

No industry is more "clubby" then racing. Everyone protects each other. Only on the forums can you get real discussion.
Pathetic Thin skinned. Protective. Contempt for the consumer. Cant imagine them working outside racing. Wouldnt be tolerated. Jeff Mullins speaks for them. If you bet you are a degenerate a hole who deserves to be gouged every step of the way. Meanwhile they will pretend to be your friend and will tell you the high volume player is your enemy

I've known quite a few harness drivers and trainers, and was friendly with some jocks on the old AC/Philly circuit in the 80's..
Many of them do think the gambler who fuels the game is an *******. That's OK though.. The game, at least here in NJ is going away soon, and I suspect if it does, it will follow in other states. Should be interesting to see what some people with minimal education will do for money at that time. Same for the track execs. The really do have contempt for most players.. Most have no idea of what the operation they work at or oversee looks like, and they surely don't know what the day to day players have to deal with.. |

right mike... Peter Berry is endangered... Vic is endangered... fuking Jeff Mullins is endangered-they all despise you too... when everything collapses they wont be able to get any other jobs either... right...
Aly, none of you put food on any of their tables... none.... these people are thick skinned and determined enough to successed at whatever they do... they're not where they're at because of you... are you such a coward-that you have to belittle someones success and say they're only making a living because of you-they're endangered without you-only putting food on the table because of you?... they wouldnt be where they're at b/c of you?... Let me tell you a little lesson about life... its not all sunshine and rainbows... its a very mean and nasty place... when you can find a place you enjoy-I place where you can find success... a place where you pay your dues and make the biggest gambles-bigger than any gamble you've ever made at a window... you dont owe anything to nobody... its the way the world turns-no one can change that... you can identify the way life works, you can critize it... you can fukn squat on my lawn for all I care... but until you realize that nobody owes you anything-you're an epic failure-endangered type-gasping for life... so squat on my lawn-I'll be sure to whip you the bird through the window-with a smile from ear to ear...

There will be contraction in racing over the next decade and tracks will close. That means people in the industry are going to lose their jobs. The writing is on the wall. I did not say anyone you mentioned would be out of a job or that people won't be able to find other jobs. |

Agreed. They are not endangered at all. Guy like Mullins would do just as well drinking coronas while working his gig as an industrial electrician.

few people will lose their jobs... nothing endangering about it at all... so a few tracks close-a few meets close... people will move around... shuffle positions... Slew-or any of you... dont really think if they close Hollywood Park that Mullins would be out of a job... that if they close AQU its the end of racing... I mean seriously people... I know most of you are pessimist... but you cant really be that stupid...
