Default Thoughts on Mohawk 9/4/08 (thursday)

Well it is a gloomy, rainy day here in Illinois so I figured I would peruse the card at Mohawk. I am not a big player at Mohawk but I like betting there. I'll start with a chalky pick 3 idea then move on to some pricier picks.
Race one
That chalky pick3 is: 4/1-3-4-5-8/3-4
Starting from the back end. (3) Bella Dolce and Hambo Oaks winner (4) Creamy Mimi lock up in the 3yo Simcoe stakes. If one of those doesn't win call a cop. That is the third leg.
My single in race 1 is (4) credit Watch. I have had my eye on this one in the NJ/NY area when Tackter and Varty trained him. He ends up in Canada with a trainer I know nothing about (Michelle Bohrer). I'll take a stand here because I am not all that thrilled with any of the others. He is made ML fave but even the oddsmaker admitted if there was ever an all race this is it.
I went 5 deep in the middle leg. (1) Allisonwonderpan is a well bred fillie touted by Erv Miller and Jamieson. (3) Shacked Up. Impressive filly has done nothing wrong yet. Will be the chalk. (4) Arts star has been off over a month. She looked real good prior to Aug. 14 vet scratch. Could get a nice price. (5) Rose Seelster. Camluck fillie put up a solid fourth in last weekends Great Lady. She is meant for bigger races than this. (8) Briar goes West is my longy here. Instinct tells me she won't like her first time from far out post. She closed in 27.2 last time. Just maybe Moiseyev can sit a little cool while a couple others bash each others brains out up front. He could pick his spot and fly past them all down the stretch.

Now for some pricier picks. By pricier I am guessing from ML
Race four.
(7) Bad obsession is a 2yo fillie that simply gets better each time she hits the track for Pinske. If Mayotte gets her to a little better start she could make her second try at Mohawk a maiden buster.

Race six.
(5) Yankee Doodle Sue. At first glance this looks like simply a Hoosier park mover in over her head. When you look closer she has been right there in all 4 races since coming to Mohawk. Waples might find a good striking spot and steal it. Definately wouldn't leave her off the exotic tickets.

Race nine.

(10) Cast A Beam. Jamieson gets back in the bike for this 4yo Yankee Glide trotter. He got used too hard making his move last time out against a decent field. There is potential chaos in this wobbly field. If Cast A Beam stays grounded and out of trouble look out. Keep an eye on (1) Sexy Grin as well. Bullet proof Boyd usually aint just whistling dixie.

Race ten.
(1) Can't quit smiling, (2) Ingrid Hanover and (3) Georgia Peach look like they should provide the winner. Watch prices to see if an exacta box is worth while. Probably will need more imagination than a box to fetch the tri though. I think it is a solid rolling pick 3 slot.

Race eleven.

(9) Designated Leader drops to NW2 level. Other than the post she has every chance to beat these. Has run well since a 9 month layoff. Could be ready to pop. Bad news is her one klunker (2 back) was from the same post. Should get a good price. I also like (3) Don't miss that grin. Broke her maiden last out and was nothing but close 4 in a row prior to that. I think the light came on for this one.

With these last 3 races I will play a p3. 1-10/1-2-3/1-3-9. I may also start a pick 3 in race 10. Race 12 has (9) How is Kathy on a 5 in a row roll. Singling her in third leg makes that ticket a cheap 1-2-3/1-3-9/9.

There you have it. Good racing.

LOVE the #9 here myself, she was outmatched and outclassed from that Post 9 start and I think the Hudons knew it, she'll like the Competition MUCH better tonight.

I'll add a few comments..
The best single of the night may end up being #3 in the 2nd race

Race 3 could provide an upset, the upsetter could be a horse who raced in top stakes, had a tuner race over the surface, but Bella Dolce has won with laughable ease,so far, unhurried they just turn her loose at the end,no telling how deep the well is there.
Race 10 -The peach looked like jelly in her last,I like the other 2 ,but may look to the outside horses instead
Race 11- How many time can you say,a good driver change to Phil Hudon? GM
