she reminds me of a horse that is just sent out there to get a check

just keep going out there and getting third so we can pay the bills

wasnt taught to win

or a horse sent out against better and gets crushed and loses all confidence-i am sure some horses never developed into their potential because of it

has a lot of talent

but harnessing talent is not easy-it takes a lot of intelligent guidance and tremendous desire-so far she hasnt gotten much guidance on winning

tiger had his father who knew how to play the game of golf-plus he is 1 in a billion

She is actually playing much better now. And not talking about her one under so far today. Even yesterday. She didnt play that bad. 9 on a par 4 was a disaster. But overall she is definitely starting to play much better.

People do not realize how hurt she has been. Golf not an easy game to play with bad wrists. People dont want to hear that and just want to dismiss her for some reason. Dont understand. She proved at 15-16 how good she was by contending in so many majors. Understanding that playing against the men rubbed people the wrong way.

People love ranking on her but she is still immensely talented and is going to win on LPGA (and win majors).

She is only 18. She is still maturing, emotionally, physically, everything.

Going to college is a brilliant move. Best thing she could have done. The panic move would have been to go right out on tour. Her parents catch grief but again, they encouraged her to go to college. She can live a more normal life, and not have the pressure of being on tour while recoving from injury.

I would take her future over most women on tour. If she was a stock she would be a screaming buy right now. Will never be this cheap

Whenever someone brings up Michelle Wie, my stomach cringes inside. This is tragedy at it's best.

A tragedy at best? I will subject myself to hyperbole like most, but tragedy?

Lets see she has made millions of dollars (and no reports of blowing it). She is getting a top quality education at Stanford. By all accounts is a good student that is liked by her fellow students.

Has loving parents.

Is better at golf than most of the worlds population.

Has several top five finishes in majors to her name already.

Is recovering from severe injury and getting her game back into shape (while attending school full time).

18 and has her whole life in front of her

Tragedy?

You mention all these facts, but fail to mention how great of talent she has at golf.

She hasn't won in almost 4 years. Aly, your so bull headed with your opinions that you don't see the light.

Wie is better than what she has shown? Right or wrong?

You know I'm right too.

Yes of course she is very talented.

When healthy she has shown how good she is. When she is hurt she has played badly (or not at all)

If an athlete shows me they are among the elite when healthy then play bad when hurt I am going to factor that in.

I don't hold "not winning" against her last year.

Yes, she could have won some of those tourneys when she was 14-15-16. She was right there in a few of them- including majors. Not sure its fair to expect a 15-16 year old to win majors or big tourneys.

To me she played well above my expectations when she was healthy- just think about it, people were expecting her to win majors at 15!

Obviously last year and a half has appeared bad- but again writing most of this off to injury.

Nothing tragic about this.

I feel she is going to be a top player for years to come. Will see

I'm not holding anything against Wie.

What's wrong with playing in amatuer tourneys, go to college for a couple of years. Then test the waters? Seems everything worked out ok for Tiger.

She has the talent to be the best Women's golfer ever. Because of intense pressure put on by coaches, parents, media, etc. She has now become to me a very sad story. To hear the Media saying she is washed up, and she's done. It's a shame.

With better guidance, she could have been great.

Tiger went to Stanford and played as amateur. She is going to Stanford and playing as pro.

So dont really see what you are getting at. Maybe she will stay 4 years, maybe she wont. I think she would be better staying at least three years.

The "pressure" is coming from the media. I agree the media and many fans have taken a bizarre glee in calling her "finished" and "washed up". All part of the media building someone up and then tearing them down.

They will have to eat crow when she comes back.

I dont see anything sad about it. While I think she got too much grief over her behavior when she was younger I think all this adversity has been good for her. She carries herself much better now. People magnified all the "mistakes" she made but geez hard to go off on 15 year old.

Only thing that will possibly hold her back is her putting. She has all the shots in the bag, but can see her being VJ Singh of the womens tour. But time to work on that.

I think she is going to be fine and will get last laugh on everyone.

Washed up at 15 lol

I think she was put on the big stage too early. We're not talking about a children's show here, she was facing the best golfers in the world. Like a 2yo running the Classic. If she gets a little normalcy over the next few years think she can still be great. If she isn't totally head ****ed by now.

The media and sponsors built the Wie machine from the ground up. Then exploited her and she left them with egg on their faces. Her parents even bought in to the over hype. She's always gonna do this and that, but so far it isn't happening. Doubtful that it ever will happen. I'll take a talent like Stacy Lewis over Wie, anytime.

a little like tracey austin or albert king

albert was the main story in si when he was 14-he was never better than bernard who was a total freak

do i think that wie is washed up

not necessarily-she showed tremendous talent early on and i still expect her to win some tournaments

an interesting question is how much heart and or desire does she actually have

i always saw her pouting-she was spoiled at a young age

If you want to talk about real bad management look at Tadd Fujiwara.

Understand the financial situations were different- his parents dont have money hers do.

But kid had no business turning pro. No business.

Cant make a cut anywhere, whatever chance he had is gone. Worse than Ty Tryon situation.

Golf is funny game. Top top players can totally lose it. Ian Baker Finch couldnt hit a fairway and had to retire. David Duval who I really like continues to struggle. Thought he broke thru with that great Open performance at Winged Foot but the time off sent him back again. We are talking about a guy who was number one player in the world.

Tiger has changed peoples expectations. To be a top 60-70 player on the PGA takes tremendous talent and drive. You can find Nationwide tour filled with former PGA winners. Its easy to drop off the screen after winning. Drop off all the tours.

Take a guy like Stewart Cink. Dont really care for him, but people would mock him for his Perfect Drift tendencies. Cashing a ton but barely winning. But to just be a good player every year is an accomplishment. So much up and down

being a great golfer or even tennis player is like trying to be a great artist

picasso left home with $20 in his pocket and went to paris

the greats of the greats are just total freaks

borg went a little nuts

bobby fischer went completely nuts

ralph sampson was somebody early on who was labeled great talent-but

jennifer capriotti

a great example is josh waitzkin who was the kid potrayed in Searching For Bobby Fischer

this kid ended up giving up chess and became a tai chi cuan push hands champion

and tennis the peak tends to be quick 4-5-6 years is your prime.

Golf you have guys in their 40's competing.

Its such a mental game.

Guys like Davis Love and Fred Couples had amazing talent. But didnt have mental game. Will go down as having great careers but only one major each. And unlike Phil didnt have to worry about Tiger for the most part.

John Daly for all his faults has two majors. Not many golfers win two majors in a career.

I totally disagree. Daly won at St. Andrews. One of the hardest courses in the world. That course doesn't fit anyone to a tee. He was 80-1 the year he won the British Open.

Tiger is walking through the clubhouse after a round and John Daly is sitting at the bar having a beer and he calls out to Tiger,

"C'mon and join me one time. Forget about the weight room for once and just have a beer with me."

Tiger says, "If I had your talent, John, I wouldn't need to hit the weight room," as he headed to the locker room.

HAHAHAHAHA. I read that book in the session. It was so good I couldn't put it down. That is if you got that quote from My Life In and Out of the Rough?

I am familiar with St.Andrews, and from remembering the 95 British Open im pretty sure Daly only shot 6 under par for the whole tournament. There are definitely short par 4s there, but just because a player might be able to hit a long driver at the course doesn't mean they should win. In 1995 John Dalys drive average was 289. Davis Love III was second in driving distance that year at 285. David Love finished the British Open at 12 over par.

for years the troubles waiting for a golfer at saint andrews was mysterious-it can take years of play
