Default Wie Hacks Again

Michelle Wie got off to a tough start Thursday with a 6-over 77, and her bid to make the cut in the John Deere Classic is very much in doubt. Wie found trouble everywhere she turned, from the tees to the sand to the water to the woods. When will this insanity stop? Whoever is advising this kid should be jailed for exploiting her. She does great against the women, but not against the men. STAY AWAY FROM MENS TOURNAMENTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Her handlers MUST surely realize that she has no chance to make much impact against men. So her participation has to be a publicity ploy. Johnny Miller and other tv analysts , in fact, have begun to question Wie's lack of success on the WOMEN'S tour. If, as is obviously the case, certain male players resent her participation in men's tourneys, can you IMAGINE the bitterness that female players who clean her clock must harbor toward her arrogant attempts to compete as an equal with men?

I don't blame them. She doesn't even need to win. We judge her according to wins, and while I am sure she wants to win, the marketing brings streams of cash. It's all about the Benjamins.

Look at what LeBron did. He shortened the deal so he can cash even bigger next time. He called it a "business decision", and he has the right to make it.

I think we put more emphasis on winning sometimes than the athletes do. They always say winning is the most important thing, but it's the money. Wie and James "know" they will win eventually. They will make all the dough they can on the way.

The only thing that bothers me about Wie is she is taking a spot from a man out there working his butt off to make it. Even if it is a sponsor's exemption, that could go to a man also. If he were allowed to go on the LPGA to earn, it would be legitimate.

Go Vijay!!!!!!!

wow, if i wasn't mistaken i would confuse you two for male chauvanist pigs..lol..first of all its great that you would be able to give wie advice when
neither of you two could carry her bag...hehe...the whole spirit of the american way is to constantly push the envelope and as long as she is wanting to try and i would assume its her endeavor, i for one see nothing wrong with it and she certainly adds a flavor to the mens tour...at the ripe old age of 17 and the way she is filling out i would still think there is room for improvement both physically and mentally...now take down those pictures of marconi that hang over the mantel piece cuz we don't use morse code anymore...............

Until she can win consistently on the women's tour, Wie hasn't EARNED the right to "push" the envelope. And furthermore, Wie PERFORMS on the men's tour like a female who is FAR from mastering opponents of her own gender.
Get back to me when she can beat other chicks.

She can't beat women. It's all nonsense to make $$ in other places.

He'll implode her career by never learning to play "properly." If Tiger Woods had to go through the amateur and college ranks, it's a good idea for all.

Total joke!

Best,

Wie and Danica Patick make me sick.
They think they are better than everyone and their ego's are nonsense. man do they need to have a reality check.
also both of them play the two most boring sports in the world in Golf and race cars. those are two very worthless sports with two women much overhyped not helping the industry out.
stay away from the men. please.

good luck

michelle wie will be the number one player on the womans tour within three years ............no she hasn't won yet but she is sixteen years old for christ sake and she has more ability than any of y7ou guys in the tip of her little finger.......and i for one hope she continues to try to play the mens tour ...just a matter of time before she makes a cut .....which may not seem like a good enough reason to play to some of you but apparently it is to the money grubbing sponsers who are corporate america............

While I agree with the preceeding comments about Wie I would have to disagree with you about Danica Patrick. Look at her record - she has competed extremely well with the men and deserves the respect she gets. True auto racing isn't the most glamorous sport but it still takes skill and quick thinking to make the split second decisions that have to be made will travelling in excess of 100 mph.

I just don't get the comparisons between Wie's golfing ability and the golfing ability of anyone posting in this thread. If she makes a cut in a PGA event, be sure to get an overpriced shirt for her to autograph.

i don't suscribe to anything corporate america has to offer ...my point was blame them ....if you don't like her or what she is doing ......i think she handles her self quite well wherever she plays ........it takes a little guts to compete or too try to compete with the men.........

Interesting thread, guys... lol!

I would like to see Wie win more against women, however the men who get upset when she plays in these tourneys must be jealous of the press she gets. If I were a man playing against her, I'd be like 'bring it on' and just try to beat her straight up.

There was an article on this in my local paper today. Talks about her being 16, and that its only a matter of time WHEN she breaks through. Says she wants to hone her game against the best and become a global icon, and the surest way to do both is by playing a mixture of men's and women's events. The article talks about the John Deere Classic, which normally gets next to no press, but got tons because she played in it. The tournament director was quoted as saying, "Having her brings the avid golf fan who understands she's doing things no 16-year-old, certainly no woman, has ever done, and the casual golf fan who knows her as one of the famous people in the world".

It went on to give stats, she's been in the top 5 at all three (women's) majors this year, finishing a combined 5 strokes out, a claim even Annika Sorenstam cannot make. If she were not an amateur, she would be ranked #15 on the LPGAs money list.

Then it said that Tiger played 7 events before he made his first cut (to her 5 at this point), and that he was 19 when he finally broke through. The second round leader at the John Deere Classic said "She's better than Tiger was at 16. I played with Tiger, and Tiger wasn't this good. Everybody is like, 'Win, win, win'. She's 16. Chill out. Once she get to winning, you'll get sick of her winning'."

I agree she needs to start winning at some point, though, if only to give her more credibility.

Does the John Deere Classic have the right to invite who they want? If you want to criticize someone, criticize them. They are the ones who gave her (and several men who are not exempt) an exemption

She has beaten plenty of women. I watched her in person beat dozens of men in the Us Open qualifier (including men who are on the PGA tour). Do you know what her golf ranking is is or average performance in a major? No women in the history of the game has her track record when looking at stage of career. No golfer in history period.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -- Teenage prodigy Michelle Wie has fired her caddie following her worst LPGA Tour finish in two years at last week's women's British Open.

Greg Johnston, who had worked for the 16-year-old Hawaiian since she turned professional last October, learned of his dismissal shortly before he left the UK on Monday.

"I was shocked and surprised, I thought we had a successful year," Johnston was quoted as saying by Golf Digest magazine on Tuesday.

Widely considered the most exciting young talent in the game since Tiger Woods, Wie tied for 26th at Royal Lytham on Sunday after failing to break par in all four rounds.

It was the first time this year she did not finish in the top five at a major.

Wie was not immediately available for comment but a New York public relations firm issued a statement on her behalf, saying Johnston's "hard work and dedication made him a great partner for Michelle, as he would be for any other golfer".

The statement continued: "His departure comes as part of Michelle's maturation as a golfer, part of which is learning from many different bright golf minds.

"We wish Greg the best, and are sure he will have a long and successful career."

Wie, who attends Punahou High School in Honolulu, is not scheduled to return to tournament golf until the European Tour's European Masters from Sept. 7-10 when she will be taking on the men for the ninth time in a professional event.

She is due to play in the PGA Tour's 84 Lumber Classic the following week.

During the women's British Open, Wie was handed a two-shot penalty in the second round on Friday.

She was penalized after touching a lump of moss on her backswing in a greenside bunker at the 14th hole, turning a five into a triple-bogey seven and a round of 72 into a 74.

The American teen came into the tournament with high hopes after a second-place finish at the previous week's Evian Masters, and top-five finishes in her previous four majors.

I just can't seem to understand how anyone can get off on criticizing this girl.
It's like someone in this thread has already said she's 16 years old for Gods sake. She looks older and carries herself well above her age but it makes me laugh when people offer her career advice like you guys.I'm not
a big golf fan but I am in awe of her as well as Danica these girls are professionals and are extremely gifted.

The fact that she was entered into a men's
