Default Michael Phelps

Medal Wise, he is likely to become the greatest ever olympian. But really, is anyone really awe struck with him ? I watch swimming once every four years. I'm sure he's a great guy and obviously a heck of a swimmer. But he doesn't have the appeal of a Tiger Woods,Tom Brady, Kobe, Lebron, or any of the numerous other athletes commanding huge saleries through marketability. Sorry, Mike.

My cousins swam in college and therefore I can see the greatness of what kid Phelps is accomplishing. First of let me say that there is no comparision to mark spitz seven gold medals due to the simple FACT that this kid is swimming two or three times within an hour to three hour period just to qualify for the finals while other competitors are just waiting for there one opportunity to knock him off. His goggles filled with water in the final of the 200m butterfly which did not allowed him to see where the wall was and he still broke the world record. He has not only broken the world record on the way to every gold to this point but he breaks the record by one, two , and three seconds which is unheard of in the sport of swimming. What phelps is accomplishing is simply one of the greatest feats of alltime and it is a shame everybody does not look at it that way. The bonus is that he will be back in 2012 at the old age of 27 to scoop up several more gold. What a MACHINE!!!!

Last night in the butterfly, the guy on the lead was only about a foot from touching the wall for the gold. Phelps was a good 4 foot behind and he somehow manages to get up for the win.

You are 100% right! What he has accomplished is off the charts NO MATTER what the sport is! He is to be commended for his incredible hard work, and is the epitamy of the Olympic Spirit!

Michael: I'm PROUD of you!!

I'm still trying figure out(among many others) how Phelps got there. Probably the most improbable thing I've ever seen in any sporting event.

Oops.....we at TVG did it again, instead of showing live racing at the Meadowlands we're going to give you last night's action at Los Al. Enjoy.

MQ: Was the name Mark Spitz familiar to you before this Olympics?

What Phelps did was like Babe Ruth hitting 80 homeruns (without steroids) and calling half of em!

I used to very involved in swimming and my daughter is a swim club coach at a pretty top rate club -- and believe: Phelps is the real deal.

He is the Tiger Woods, Kobe, and Babe Ruth of swimming all rolled into one.

I cant imagine the money Phelps will make with endorsements. Betcha he dies a Billionaire -- yes, thats with a "B"

Phelps didnt wear the "new suit" when swimming the fly. Setting at least 3 World records without the suit while everyone else was wearing it.

It wasnt the suit.

not to mention: since everyone else was wearing the "new suit" better times would all balance out.

Tell me about it. Back in the day, when my daughter was "chasing the dream", she swam in the same club (northern va.) as did Olympian Mike Barrowman. My wife and I drove her to practices every morning -- nearly year round -- at 4:30 a.m. -- and another in the evening during the week. Those kids worked!!!! Although my daughter wasnt able to record National's times, she was able to dominate her county's swim league -- and in the summer set numerous pool records -- great fun -- but total dedication and hard work goes along with it.

The chinese built the pool with a depth of nine feet and two extra lanes which is suppose to favor faster times. The regular pool is six feet deep and has eight lanes.
