Default Charlie Manuel proves you can be retarded and still be a World Series winning manager

Are you kidding me? WTF is he still using Lidge? Most of the saves he's gotten he has been life and death to get, including yesterday. 8 or 9 blown, I lost track. Today he blows a 3-2 lead in about 3 minutes, with a throwing error for good measure, and loses the game 4-3. I'm sorry if it sounds harsh, but it has to be some kind of mental condition on Manuel's part.

the phillies caught a tampa team that had won the world series against the red sox...while it's in the books philly was fortunate last year just like the giants were...but that's why they play the game...i didn't say lucky, i said fortunate..

It was a combo of Tampa being flat at the wrong time and Philly being sharp at the right time, but that had nothing to do with Manuel....he is so inconsequential to his team's success it's ridiculous, yet the few spots he can make a difference he chooses to chew cud.

Don't look now, but I think those are the footsteps of the Marlins and Braves behind you. Phils could be this year's Mets unless they solve their bullpen woes. Interesting how Lidge and K-Rod are both imploding; kind of makes you wonder how Mariano Rivera keeps on keeping on for the Yanks.

I wouldn't go that far. Phillies still much better than those two, just could do without the 8 ERA closer. Trade him to the Nats, he'd actually bring their collective bullpen ERA down

Right now my stuff is as good as it's been in two years," Lidge said. "I'm trying to go after guys. That ball [Infante] hit, he didn't hit it good but it found a hole. It's been happening. That's just the way it's been going."

Lidge, who has a 7.27 ERA, acknowledged he couldn't blame the loss only on bad breaks.

"I'm mad at myself for throwing the ball away," he said. "I hurried the throw. You make your own luck in this game. I don't believe in bad luck."

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel called Lidge "our closer" and said "we've got confidence in him."

"At the same time, we definitely want to win our games, of course," Manuel said.

Lidge was never going to match his '08 season, you have to be extremely lucky to have 0 blown saves. And I'm all for riding it out -- baseball is a streaky game. But it's not just about him getting hit, he's also walking people (sometimes on 4 or 5 pitches) he should be getting out. On Thursday night he walked a .148 hitter in the 9th spot with a man in scoring position to get to the top of the order. This kind of ineffectiveness has been going on all year, not just a few games.

I don't think he is going to turn it around and Madsen can't close, they better figure something out.

Agreed I don't think Madson is the long term solution, but it's almost impossible at this point he isn't an improvement.

Jolly Cholly is a handicap. I posted they may have won 10 more games without him last year.

That is the worst byproduct of the WS win,
he is now a permanent feature.

and BTW the latest Myers incident is hilarious,
first guy says kid hit him in the eye with a ball,
then says he fell out of his truck,

truth probably =wife beat the crap out of him.

Fortunate? They had two MVPS a slew of all stars, the best closer in the game and the second best left handed starter in the game-

It was the best Phillie's offensive line up and closer in the history of the franchise,
the truth is they should have won 10more games than they did,
and the WS odds should have reflected that.
